Pre-Arrival Information for Residential Guests

Howsham Hall is a 400 year old, Grade 1 listed Hall with 12 bedrooms. It is a beautiful private venue, not a hotel.

We are delighted that you will be staying overnight with us. Here is some information for you to help you enjoy your stay.

Arrival Information

Howsham Hall’s postcode is YO60 7PH (for sat nav use YO60 7PB) Please note that there are several other properties with the same postcode. We are around 10 minutes off the A64.

From the west: cross over Howsham Bridge. Our gate lodges and driveway are immediately on your left. If you are in a large vehicle please check clearance before proceeding through the gates.

From the east: follow High Lane signposted towards Howsham. At the junction to Howsham village, continue straight ahead for 1/3 mile. The gate lodges and driveway are on your right immediately before the bridge.

Please do not access the Hall via Howsham village

 

Parking

You are welcome to drop off at the front door. Cars should then be parked at the side of the house or on the marked grass area. Please do not park in front of the house.

Check In

Your hosts will advise you of your check in time. The Venue Manager or House Butler will greet you when you arrive at Howsham Hall and assist you with your bags. The house team will then guide to your room and give you all the information that you will need for an enjoyable and safe stay.

Breakfast

Continental breakfast will be served between 8.30am-9.30am in the breakfast room during your stay.

Check Out

You must vacate the venue by 10.30am on your departure day. Please do take care to check your room thoroughly and remove any personal belongings as we cannot retain these after your departure.

Room Facilities

All rooms are en-suite and come with towels, bathrobes, luxury toiletries, hairdryer and a Nespresso machine. You will find specifics about your room on our accommodation page. An iron and ironing board is available upon request. There are some TVs available and your host will decide how these are allocated. Whilst there is no distributed television signal, the Hall does have high speed wi-fi available throughout.

Please let us know on the email address below if you have any special bedding requirements e.g. if you are allergic to feathers.

Your room will have tea and coffee making facilities. The landing nearest to your room will have a fridge which contains fresh dairy milk and a bottle of orange juice for each guest. Fresh cakes are also provided daily.

The house kitchen will contain a ‘starter pack’ of tea and coffee, you are welcome to bring additional provisions if you wish.

Local Amenities

Howsham Hall is located 15 minutes from Malton and 20 minutes from York. There are chemists, major supermarkets and high street retailers in these towns. There is a garage about 8 minutes drive away on the A64 which also has a cash machine. Please ask the house team for directions.

Bar

The bar will be open on the day of the event after the ceremony, and whilst we accept both cash and cards (not American Express), we would advise you to bring some cash at there can be network challenges in century old buildings!

Please note, drinking your own alcohol on the day of the event is not permitted. If you do consume your own alcohol the house team will confiscate the items, the bar may ultimately be closed and a supplementary corkage charge will be applied to the hosts’ account.

On the day prior to the event your host will have arranged the hospitality and will relay this information to you. Any alcohol you bring on-site will be stored for you on the event day and returned to you on your departure.

Smoking

Smoking, including the use of ‘e-cigarettes’ is permitted outside only, in the designated areas which are highlighted by the tall cigarette bins. Please use the cigarette bins at all times. Smoking is not permitted in the any of the public areas (this applies to cigars as well) and in any of the bedrooms. A cleaning charge of £100 will be charged per room if smoking occurs.

Noise

Please be considerate to other guests during your stay keeping noise to a minimum along the bedroom corridors. We do have neighbours fairly close to the hall so we do ask you to be considerate outside of the Hall after 11pm.

Safety Instructions

Howsham Hall borders the River Derwent along occasionally steep banks. This represents a hazard for children or guests who require supervision. Please make it clear to your guests and family that children must be attended in the grounds at all times. There are two throwing lines in the grounds bordering the river.

Only residential guests are permitted to visit the upper floors. The staircases and banisters are historic and not up to modern standards- so for safety we ask that children must be supervised at all times please when on the upper floors.
