— Wedding reception entertainment: alternatives to the dancefloor —
With the covid restrictions on dance floors continuing beyond 21st June, we asked event entertainment experts Doub7e Seven to help us put some ideas together for alternative wedding entertainment. Here’s their top tips for creating the best wedding receptions, without dancefloors!
Who are we?
Doub7e Seven is a client focused supplier of events, established in 2003. We’ve been proud to supply Dine at venues across the country ever since. We enjoy providing bespoke event solutions. This means we ask our clients about their events before we give them a list of ideas to choose from. You will have various criteria. Plus, you might want some advice in areas such as costs, noise levels, space requirement, access times and so forth. Doub7e Seven provides professional money and time saving consultation.
What wedding reception entertainment works with covid regulations?
Although you aren’t allowed to have a dancefloor for your wedding reception entertainment, there are lots of ways you can make a personalised, fun party. Socially distanced entertainment such as flower walls, selfie mirrors, fun casinos, close up magicians all work well. Plus, guests really enjoy having a DJ to give requests to (even if they are restricted to dancing at the chairs!).
Music
You may not be allowed a dancefloor but dancing is not illegal- so a DJ or band will still have a role to play! Or perhaps go for laid-back musicians for wedding ceremonies, drinks receptions, photo sessions and meals.
Photo fun
Be a star for a day with photo booths, selfie pods, or costume cameramen! Doub7e Seven can provide fake paparazzi to give you and your guests a red-carpet welcome.
LED Light-up letters
These create a fabulous backdrop for your photos, especially for your ‘first dance’ which is still legally permitted!
Flower walls and other decor
Flower walls for weddings are very on-trend and can work with your colour scheme and theme. Use them to create great selfie backdrops for your guests to get that fabulous Insta photo!
Entertainers
These are more unusual to see at a wedding but are great socially-distanced entertainment alternatives and can really help get the party started! Mix & mingle performers such as magicians, fire eaters, jugglers, & costume stilt walkers can entertain guests during the drinks reception or as part of the evening wedding entertainment.
Cabaret entertainment
So you can’t have a dancefloor? Invoke the spirit of the roaring twenties, cabaret style! Dancers, magicians, illusionists, and even aerial artists are great alternative wedding entertainment ideas and will really make your wedding the one everyone is talking about!
Games & interactive entertainment
If your venue has outdoor space, giant garden games can create a buzz and work well for all ages. Giant Jenga, croquet, air hockey, rodeo bulls, retro arcade games can all be used safely. Fun casinos can also work well. These are great for during the drinks reception and for keeping your guests entertained whilst the wedding couple are busy with the photographer.
Value For Money
If you’ve never booked an entertainer before, you may be unsure about costs and what it involves. Doub7e Seven provide transparent costs, no rider add-ons or hidden fees. We offer a ‘price match’ guarantee and only recommend artists from a ‘tried and tested’ list. That includes making sure our artists have a large and varied repertoire, e.g. for music, this means a repertoire of cover material so guests hear familiar songs – easy on the cheese, but fun none the less! You have an input to the songs that you hear when booking DJs and bands.
Our artists and crew will liaise professionally with the venue to ensure a fuss-free set up and preparation to your event. This includes sound and lighting set-up, delivery and collection times, and working with the venue on space allocation and other aesthetic considerations.
Compliance Documents
The boring but important stuff! Doub7e Seven are fully compliant with Covid protocol and we are constantly updating our policies. We provide risk assessment documents (to keep people safe in terms of Covid and in terms of all aspects of each individual event). Plus, we are PAT (electrical) tested, safety checked and hold full public liability insurance.
There are many alternatives to a disco for your wedding entertainment; not having a dancefloor does not mean your wedding will be silent! Speak to your event manager for more wedding entertainment ideas and how we can make your wedding your ultimate dream day.
