Whilst we all think of summer as being ‘wedding season’, winter weddings are an increasingly popular choice. In fact, the period between Christmas and New Year is in such demand for weddings its now often booked up years in advance!

Winter weddings are a great excuse to opt for a rich, jewel colour scheme. Reds, gold, oranges, dark greens and navy all work particularly well for a winter wedding colour scheme. Add lots of luxurious textures- fake fur, velvets and silks – for a truly opulent celebration!

Avoid the Christmas/ New Year period, and a winter wedding is usually more affordable than its summer alternative. Dates in January, February and March will give you a lot more bang for your buck, with discounts on venue hire for example of up to 30%. It’s not just wedding venues- accommodation for your guests will usually be cheaper, and suppliers such as florists often have special offers on too.

Winter is usually considered to be low or mid season for wedding suppliers, and whilst some use the time to catch up on holidays or branch out into other things, you are much more likely to be able to secure your favourite suppliers during winter. This is especially true of wedding venues, which can book key summer dates up to 3 years ahead! If you have a particular venue, photographer or band in mind, you’ll find they have more available dates to choose from during the winter wedding season.

Choose a November or December wedding date, and capture everyone whilst they’re busy getting into the festive mood; or opt for a New Year wedding in January or February, which gives everyone something to look forward to after the excitement of Christmas has passed.
